ForrestBrown turns three today. On birthdays before, I have looked back on the previous twelve months and had to double check.

A string of awards for ForrestBrown

In a year of achievements, perhaps the one that stands out more than any other was us winning the coveted ‘Best Independent Consultancy Firm’ award at The Taxation Awards 2016. Success at this ceremony is regarded as a hallmark of excellence within the tax industry. To win in our third year of trading is a testament to the quality of our service and the respect of our expertise by peers. We see our tax-led approach to research and development (R&D) tax credits as a key differentiator from our competitors, and it is fantastic to have independent affirmation of our strength in this area.

It was not the only award we have picked up in the last 12 months. Other successes include:

  • Shortlisted (awaiting results) for ‘Lloyds Bank New Business of the Year’ at the National Business Awards 2016.
  • Winning ‘Business of the Year (11-50 employees)’ at the Business Leader Awards 2016.
  • Winning ‘Start-up Business of the Year’ at the Bristol Evening Post 2016 Business Awards.
  • Voted number 13 of the Start-Ups 100 2016.
  • Winning at the Start Up Awards 2015 as ‘Best Service Business’.

ForrestBrown London office

2016 also saw us open a London office. Our space in the vibrant We Work Moorgate complex gives us the ideal base to service our London clients. With over 3,000 workers in residence it is often dubbed ‘the largest start-up space in the UK.’ The perfect fit for ForrestBrown.

One of the largest chartered tax teams specialising in R&D tax credits

The ForrestBrown team has continued to expand, and we suspect we now one of the largest teams of Chartered Tax Advisers specialising in R&D tax credits in the UK. With over 30 employees, almost 20 of whom are Chartered Tax Advisers, our growth has continued to rocket. This has allowed us to continue delivering excellent service to an ever growing client list. Indeed, we are now advising on more than 100 R&D tax credit claims a month with referrals being one of the main drivers of new business. In 2016 so far we have hired 11 new staff plus had our first intern. Most recently we welcomed tax manager Jennifer Eastman and research consultant Olly Newman.

Launch of the ForrestBrown Learning Lab

And with so many new joiners, we have put processes in place to ensure consistent quality of service and in-house expertise. The ForrestBrown Learning Lab does just that: a dedicated proprietary education and training programme to provide niche R&D training to tax professionals. Launched earlier this year, the first employees are just graduating from it, giving glowing reviews in terms of their professional development.

Thank you

All in all, it has been a smashing year. Big thank yous go out to all our clients, staff and partners. I can’t wait to celebrate our fourth birthday, and to look back on another 12 months of growth and success.
