Mariam is a materials sector specialist at ForrestBrown with a background in mechanical engineering. She advises our tax team and collaborates with clients to properly define the R&D when working with physical materials. This means she is often involved in construction, engineering and manufacturing claims.
Mariam graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with an honours degree in mechanical engineering. Her first professional role was at the design consultancy Jacobs in Reading. She spent six years working with companies in process industries, particularly the pharmaceutical and energy sectors. As a static equipment engineer, Mariam worked hands-on in testing the stresses and strains on materials in different environmental conditions.
Mariam also spent a year working as a mechanical integrity engineer for Pembroke Refinery. In this role she inspected equipment to ascertain if it remained fit for purpose beyond its design life. Mariam enjoyed a second stint as a static equipment engineer at Foster Wheeler, another design consultancy. This time she designed pressure vessels and heat exchangers on behalf of end users. She also worked on a successful turnaround project, during which she liaised with steel fabricators.
With so much practical experience in mechanical engineering, Mariam is an important resource for our tax team and clients who innovate with physical materials.
