We're delighted to welcome Chartered Tax Adviser Adam Kotas to the ForrestBrown tax team as a Senior Tax Manager.

Adam started his career at Deloitte in Bristol where he undertook his chartered tax training. Having spent four years at Deloitte, he switched to a tax consultancy firm in Bath where he advised entrepreneurs in optimising the tax structure of their businesses, as well as their own tax affairs. This covered many areas of the business life-cycle including financing and SEIS/EIS tax reliefs, share schemes, re-structuring, disposal and yes… R&D tax credits.

Another four years later and all that experience makes Adam a perfect fit for ForrestBrown. With not only his technical knowledge but also the passion for working with innovative companies and helping them develop and grow.

Adam is particularly excited about working in the digital space, where disruptive technologies have the potential to transform entire sectors, seemingly overnight. Of course not every company hits the jackpot (although this does not impact upon whether an R&D claim is successful), but when they do he takes great satisfaction in having helped in some modest way.

At Aston University Adam studied International Business and French. This included an interesting internship at an internet wine merchant in Paris. Here the boss defied a building wide smoking ban by constantly wielding an enormous cigar, while each desk had an obligatory wine tasting glass.

Adam is a keen sportsman playing football during the winter and cricket by summer. However, the happy arrival of a young son has curtailed his playing time somewhat in the last season or two.

Our latest recruit is enjoying the atmosphere in the office:

“Having experienced the formality of a big four company and the flamboyancy of a Parisian wine merchant it already feels like I have found a happy medium at ForrestBrown where our tax work is punctuated by a Sonos sound system, and it’s not unheard of to enjoy a beer at 4pm on a Friday.”

Managing Director Simon Brown extended the traditional ForrestBrown welcome:

“It’s great to expand our tax team with someone of Adam’s calibre. His experience in working with entrepreneurs will stand him in good stead to deliver the exceptional level of service our clients have come to expect.”
